Senior Counsel

James Thornton, senior consultant, has more than 30 years of experience in nonprofit organizational management, development, institutional advancement, public relations, marketing and communications, and consulting.  Mr. Thornton has extensive fund-raising experience in a variety of nonprofit settings in higher education, health care, arts and humanities, human service agencies, and public broadcasting.  Prior to joining Goettler Associates, he served as managing director of a professional consulting firm in the Midwest, and has held senior advancement and executive director positions with the Dayton Art Institute, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens, and the University of Cincinnati.  During his tenure with Goettler Associates, he has served more than thirty clients as campaign director, and conducting campaign readiness studies, development assessments, board development and strategic planning projects.  Mr. Thornton is a graduate of Doane College.
